Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born July 12 1988, is a Canadian actor and singer from Canada. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to have won. As an actress, she is well-known for her roles as Two or Rebecca as Two / Rebecca / Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was widely praised by the judges, she was a victim of massive setbacks both in the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, being voted into the bottom three and bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. In shock, the judges urged viewers to vote for contestants who resembled Melissa who was clearly a singer with the greatest vocal talent. O'Neil was highly praised for her performance and never fell back to the third place. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the whole competition. O'Neil together with Rex Goudie, reached the finals on September 7 in 2005. Werner, a judge famously stated that the headlines of the following day's news will be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead. The Queen will live forever." O'Neil defeated Goudie at the grand final results show on September 14, 2005 to be named the third Canadian Idol.
