Linda Edna's parents are businessmen Wayne David Cardellini and Lorraine (Hernan). Her parents were born in Redwood City in California. She studied at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama and began her acting career with the British TV show Just William (2010). Cinderella (2015) was her first feature film, following the role she played the role of Lady Rose MacClare (2012-2015) in Downton Abbey, a period television drama. James then played The Countess Natasha Rostova on the TV adaptation of War & Peace in 2016. James has appeared in numerous films such as Baby Driver (2017) and period dramas Darkest Hour (2017) and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society 2018. She also appeared in The Dig 2021, as well as the musicals Mamma Mia! We Go Again 2018 and Yesterday (2019). Then, in 2022 her role as Pamela Anderson was recognized with a Golden Globe nomination and a Primetime Emmy Award.
